Ceramic Fiber Blanket

Ceramic fiber blanket is a flexible, lightweight alumina-silicate (aluminium silicate) fiber insulation product that combines fire resistance, heat insulation and heat retention in one material. It is supplied in regular sizes; used long-term in neutral and oxidising atmospheres it keeps its tensile strength, toughness and fiber structure, and it does not powder within its working temperature.

Ceramic fiber blanket combining fire resistance, heat insulation and heat retention, with low heat capacity and thermal conductivity, in standard, high-purity, high-alumina and zirconia-containing grades.

Product overview

RISING REFRACTORY supplies the blanket in four grades — STD (standard), HP (high purity), HA (high alumina) and HZ (zirconia-containing) — at a density of 64–140 kg/m³. The grade sets the chemistry and the temperature limit: Al₂O₃ rises from 44–46 % in the STD grade to 52–55 % in the HA grade, the HZ grade adds 15–17 % ZrO₂, and the published maximum working temperature rises from 1200 ℃ (STD) through 1260 ℃ (HP) and 1350 ℃ (HA) to 1400 ℃ (HZ).

Thermal conductivity and tensile strength are published at a reference density of 128 kg/m³ — 0.14 W/(m·K) at 800 ℃ for the STD and HP grades — and permanent linear shrinkage is specified at no more than 3 % after 24 hours at the grade’s test temperature, from 1050 ℃ for STD to 1300 ℃ for HZ.

Blanket is the flexible form of the same fiber that RISING also supplies as rigid ceramic fiber board and as pre-assembled ceramic fiber module; the comparison table below and the technical guide linked on this page set the three forms side by side. In the industry selection matrices published on this site, the blanket is specified for the cyclone separator, mixer and expansion joints, the economizer wall and pipe and the tail flue insulation of CFB boilers, and for the insulation against the shell of coal water slurry and residue oil gasifiers and the insulation layers and expansion joints of gasification and cracking furnaces.

Selection guide

Answers drawn from the published specification and the industry selection matrices, for engineers comparing this product before a quotation.

What is ceramic fiber blanket?
Ceramic fiber blanket is a flexible, lightweight alumina-silicate (aluminium silicate) fiber insulation product that combines fire resistance, heat insulation and heat retention. Supplied in regular sizes, it keeps its tensile strength, toughness and fiber structure in long-term use in neutral and oxidising atmospheres and does not powder within its working temperature.
Which ceramic fiber blanket grades are available?
Four grades: STD (standard), HP (high purity), HA (high alumina) and HZ (zirconia-containing). Their published maximum working temperatures are 1200 ℃, 1260 ℃, 1350 ℃ and 1400 ℃ respectively, and Al₂O₃ rises from 44–46 % (STD) to 52–55 % (HA), with 15–17 % ZrO₂ in the HZ grade.
Which ceramic fiber blanket density should I choose?
The blanket is specified at 64–140 kg/m³ in every grade. The published thermal conductivity and tensile strength are measured at 128 kg/m³, so that is the density the data sheet values describe. State the application, the operating temperature and whether the blanket forms a backup insulation layer or faces the process; the technical team confirms the density and the thickness against current production. No thickness values are published on this page.
Ceramic fiber blanket, board or module: which form?
The three forms are the same alumina-silicate fiber in the same four grades. Blanket is flexible and the lightest, board is rigid and resists wind erosion, and module is a pre-assembled block that builds a seamless lining. The grade, not the form, sets the temperature limit; the technical guide on this site sets the three specifications side by side.
Where is ceramic fiber blanket used?
In the industry selection matrices published on this site, the blanket is specified in CFB boilers for the cyclone separator, mixer and expansion joints, the economizer wall and pipe and the tail flue insulation, and in chemical and petrochemical plants for the insulation against the shell of coal water slurry and residue oil gasifiers and for the insulation layers and expansion joints of gasification and cracking furnaces. It is also recorded as a supplied material in a published steel-industry supply reference.
What data should I send for a ceramic fiber blanket quotation?
The grade, or the operating temperature if the grade is not yet chosen; the application and the equipment; the required thickness, width and length or the area to cover; the quantity in square metres or rolls; the delivery destination; and the documents you need, such as the technical data sheet for the grade.
