How to Prepare a Refractory RFQ

A useful refractory RFQ identifies the product or material, the application and equipment, the grade or specification, dimensions or a drawing for shaped products, the quantity, the operating conditions and the delivery destination, and says which technical documents are needed.

Providing this information lets the sales and technical team review the service conditions, propose the correct product and grade, and return a structured quotation with the documentation needed for evaluation and tendering. Missing something? Send what you have; the rest is asked for during technical review.

What Product Information Should I Provide?

Name the catalogue product where you know it, or the material category where you do not: refractory bricks, monolithic refractories, ceramic fiber, thermal insulation, silicon carbide, steelmaking refractories, refractory raw materials or carbon and graphite products. An existing supplier or product specification, and the required chemical or physical properties where you have them, can be attached for review against the catalogue grades.

If the product is uncertain, give the application and the operating conditions instead: material selection starts from the equipment and the lining zone, proposes material types from the catalogue product families, and continues into the grade.

Why Does the Application or Equipment Matter?

The equipment and the operating zone decide the material before any grade is chosen. A refractory lining is built in layers, and the same vessel takes a different material in each zone, so an RFQ that names the equipment and the zone can be matched to a grade directly. The quotation form has fields for the industry and for the application or equipment, for example a ladle lining or a rotary kiln burning zone.

What If I Already Have a Grade or Specification?

Include it. A grade, a chemical composition, physical properties, an existing data sheet or a tender specification all shorten the review. RISING can review the supplied requirement against the available product range and manufacturing scope; where a catalogue grade matches, it is proposed, and where a requirement differs, development normally starts from the nearest specified grade and is confirmed against the operating conditions before production.

Do I Need a Drawing?

For shaped products, yes where a standard size does not apply. Dimensions or a drawing define the shape being quoted, and custom shapes in the refractory brick family are quoted from the drawing. For monolithic materials a drawing is optional, though the lining zone and thickness help.

Accepted file types: PDF, DOC, DOCX, XLS, XLSX, DWG, DXF, PNG, JPG, JPEG. Files are sent with the quotation request from the form itself — up to 5 files, 10 MB each; the website keeps no copy.

How Should I State the Quantity?

State the quantity in the unit that suits the product, for example tonnes, pieces, m², per product or grade where the enquiry covers several. The quantity is needed for the quotation itself and for the packing and export preparation that follows production. An estimated quantity is better than none; it can be refined during technical review.

What Operating Information Is Useful?

The operating temperature, the application or equipment and the operating zone are the fields the quotation form carries, and the atmosphere and other service conditions can be described in the message. Service conditions are reviewed before any material is proposed, so the more precisely the process is described, the more directly the grade can be matched.

How the enquiry is reviewed

Why Give the Delivery Destination?

Give the country and, where relevant, the destination city or port. After production, products are packed and prepared for export to the destination port, and export packing and supply coordination to that port are part of the support offered to international buyers, so the destination lets the sales team understand the quotation basis you are asking for.

What Documents Can I Request?

Say which documents you need with the quotation. Technical data sheets and product documents are supplied with the quotation on request. The management-system certificates and the granted patents are published on this website and can be referenced in tender documentation; company verification documents, including the business license translation, are on the About page.

Comparison

An Incomplete RFQ and a Better One

A generic illustration, not a real request. Both are answered; the second is answered first time.

Incomplete

“Please quote refractory bricks.”

No material, grade, shape, quantity, application or destination, so the first reply has to ask for all of them before anything can be quoted.

Better

“Please quote [product or material], required grade or specification, dimensions, quantity, application or equipment, operating temperature and destination.”

Every field the quotation form carries is present, so the technical team can review the service conditions and return a structured quotation with the documentation you need.
